Called Boxer-8658AI, there are two versions: one with a hex-core Cortex-A78AE v8.2 64bit CPU and 8Gbyte of LPDDR5 memory, and the other with 16Gbyte and an octa-core processor.

“For in-vehicle or industrial video recorder applications, the Boxer-8658AI can leverage the Orin NX’s 100Top/s and 1,024-core Nvidia Ampere GPU to conduct intricate AI inferencing tasks using the vast quantities of data the PC acquires from connected peripherals,” according to Aaeon.

The computer can accept power between 9 and 36V, and for vehicle use a third pin on the power connector accepts the vehicle’s ‘accessory’ signal to allow various ignition-delayed on and off timings to be set on the unit. A suitable power connector is supplied.

Power available through the PoW ports can be a total of: 120W with a supply of 24V or more, 80W between 12 and 24V, and 30W below 12V.

As well as the eight PoE ports, there are a pair of Gbit Ethernet ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, DB-9 for CAN bus and DB-15 for RS-232/422/485, plus an optional UART/I2C connector.

Wi-Fi and LTE communication is supported by seven antenna openings and internal slots for M.2 2230 E-key and M.2 3052 B-key modules, and two SIM cards.

NVMe memory is covered by a M.2 2280 M-key slot, and there is a SATA drive bay.

Two unusual built-in peripherals are a nine-axis inertial measurement unit and a GNSS satellite navigation receiver, and then for security that is a TPM unit.

Although there is no internal fan, its operational range of -15 to +60°C  is specified with 0.7m/s airflow over the unit – and with the caveat that the installed SSD is specified for “industrial wide” temperatures.

Mechanically, it is designed to MIL-STD-810G for shock (method 516.6, procedure I) and vibration (514.6C procedure 1, category 4).

Dimensions are 210 x 164 x 76mm, expanding to 246 x 164.2 x 83mm when the included wall-mount bracket is used.
