Infineon expands investment in Taiwan region, report says

June 18, 2024 — According to reports, Infineon plans to expand its R&D investment in Taiwan region and establish an Advanced Automotive and Wireless Communications Semiconductor R&D Center with a total investment of NT$1.2 billion (approximately US$37.07 million).

The report pointed out that this is the first time that a European chip manufacturer has set up such a research and development center in Taiwan, symbolizing that Taiwan’s influence in the global semiconductor and automotive chip fields will be further enhanced.

The establishment of Infineon’s R&D center will introduce the world’s leading automotive wireless control technology, strengthen the technical cooperation between local manufacturers and international automotive electronics experts, and accelerate local companies’ entry into the international automotive market.

Infineon Technologies said that in view of the development trend of the automotive industry and the strong strength of Taiwan’s information and communications industry, it will upgrade the existing Wireless Communications R&D Laboratory to establish an Advanced Automotive and Wireless Communications Semiconductor R&D Center and work with local industry-university-research partners to jointly develop automotive-grade communication chips and innovative application solutions.
